Picnic for Nature - Yila Healing Trail Closing Ceremony

Join them for the grand finale of the Yila Healing Trail at the Ulladulla Civic Centre, where they celebrate their journey across the Shoalhaven.

This special event highlights the involvement of local schools, where over 500 students, gifted clapsticks by Michael Robinson from Doolagartefacts and Gumaraa, learned the traditional song "Yila" from Uncle Paul, Joe, and Ronald McLeod. The students will join us to clap in the healing on this beautiful day.

Bring a picnic rug, some food, and drink to enjoy as they gather to reconnect with nature and emphasize the important role young people play in this movement. Visit all the trestle tables – and learn about all that gets done around here Caring for Country.

The day begins with a Welcome to Country by Uncle Phil Butler, a Yuin man and Aboriginal Education Officer at St Mary’s School in Milton.

Carolyn Loton , Chairperson of nature Conservation Council, will then introduce this chapter of Picnic for Nature, a statewide event celebrating the creation of a nature-centric future.

They highlight the concept of Country as Teacher.

Offerings from Shoalhaven Community Preschool, Sussex Inlet School, St Mary’s School, Ulladulla High School and all those who work in service of Nature will weave the Voices of Country, leading to their grand finale: the Clapstick Orchestra singing "Yila."
